  Best Agriculture Practices on Peatland for Community Livelihood

This workshop was attended by 50 participants from Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam. The key objective of this workshop was to enhance the technical knowledge for sustainable peatland management among communities living on peatlands.The first day was an indoor session at Twin Lotus Hotel, Nakhon Si Thammarat city. The sessions were conducted by Mr Chai Ah Sung, a consultant with 20 years experience working in peatland areas in Indonesia. On the second day, participants were taken to Kuen Kreng Peat Swamp Forest and the Pak Phanang Fire Control Station. They also visited a market for dried catfish (produce of the peat swamps) and a community centre where they process a local reed called 'krajoot' to be woven into mats, handbags and other items for sale. The third day, they visited Thale Noi Non-Hunting area, a RAMSAR site located in Phattalung province to see how the communities can benefit from the conservation of the wetland area.
