SONGKHLA - A fire destroyed a large area of peat swamp forest in Muang district on Thursday night. Two fire trucks from Koh Taew tambon municipality battled the flames in the peat forest at Ban Bo-it village. Firemen hosed down a barrier strip, soaking it to prevent the raging fire spreading to houses and farmland. The flames were finally brought under control about 4am on Friday. Tens of rai of the forest were burnt out, but no casualties or damage to people’s property were reported.
