PALEMBANG, NETRALNEWS.COM - Peatlands in the Ogan Ilir district, South Sumatra, will be used as pineapple plantations to make the lands more productive and prevent forest and land fires.

Peat areas in South Sumatra, including in the Ogan Ilir district, is large and therefore should be utilized to be more productive, said Danrem 044 Garuda Dempo Colonel Inf Kunto Arief Wibowo in Palembang, Wednesday (10/18/2017).

In addition, fires on peatland are difficult to extinguish so it becomes a serious concern from all parties.

Therefore, many parties are joining together to transform peatlands into areas that are beneficial to communities.

In order to maximize the peatlands, Bios 44 liquid would be introduced to the soil. This liquid can fertilize the peatlands, he said.
