A friend of me living near Tangkiling hills, Central Kalimantan, 34km north of Palangkaraya, writes yesterday:

"It has been quite smoky at Tangkiling area in the last 1 week or so. Governor and Mayor have forbidden their people burning bushes or trees, but I guess it is not so simple to change 'tradition' that has gone on for many years.

We survive so far, hopefully rain will come soon or the people will understand soon the danger as they experienced many damages especially eg. in 1997."
