SINGAPORE - The air quality till Tuesday at 6pm is expected to be in the moderate range, the National Environment Agency said on Monday evening in the first of its daily haze forecasts for the haze season.

At 6pm on Monday, the 24-hour Pollutant Standards Index ranged from 52 to 54 over various parts of the island.

As the south-west monsoon sets in, the prevailing winds will blow from the south and south-west, which could bring smoke haze from hotspots in Indonesia's Riau province.

The number of hotspots detected in Sumatra on Monday was 114, with localised smoke plumes observed from some hotspots in Riau, the NEA said.
